The ground sorted itself long before anybody planted anything in it.
Water came down the slope and dropped what it was carrying, and it did that for a few thousand years before the house was here, and that's why the low corner behaves differently than the high one. You've been working with all of that the whole time. Nobody has ever told you what it left behind.
